Dovedale and Ilam

Dovedale’s stepping stones, the stone pinnacles above the river and the wooded valley around Ilam Park make dramatic, quiet portrait settings. The paths are uneven in places, so I plan a short, comfortable route with you rather than a long hike in wedding shoes.

Tissington

A few miles north, Tissington is one of the prettiest estate villages in the county, with a duck pond, stone cottages and a tree-lined Hall. The Tissington Trail gives you a flat, tree-lined path that works well for walking portraits in any season.

The market town

Ashbourne’s Georgian streets and the spire of St Oswald’s church give you formal backdrops in the middle of town. A morning ceremony in town and an afternoon in the dales is a combination that works well for photos.

Weather and light

The dales hold shade early in the day and can be muddy after rain, so bring spare shoes for the portraits. Late afternoon light in the valley is lovely, and I will help you plan the timeline around it.

Travelling here

Ashbourne is at the southern edge of the Peak District, and I cover it as part of Derbyshire. Travel depends on your venue, and I will agree it with you before you book.
